Whitehill & Bordon has seen lots of investment coming into the area in recent years. The regeneration project is now in phase 2 with the recent opening of BOSC, new residents are getting the keys to their new homes, and of course we celebrated the launch of SiGNAL earlier this year!
An important part of regeneration is promoting local business and a thriving local economy. Whitehill & Bordon, while part of the M3 corridor, are currently not on the map in the same way as towns like Farnborough and Basingstoke. This means that although some large firms are moving into the area to take up office and industrial space, much of the local business community is made up of small businesses including sole traders, freelancers and companies with a handful of employees.
Many business owners in the area are also local residents, and some of them are new to the town and new to running their own business. To this end there’s a need for business support and facilities aimed at start up companies and entrepreneurs who want to develop and grow their businesses in this area.
Fortunately, as part of the regeneration, services and facilities are being put in place to provide this much needed business infrastructure. Here are just a few ways this is being achieved:
The Bordon Hub
For start up business support look no further than our own Bordon Hub! This successful business group is for anyone who wants to learn essential skills to help start up or grow your small business. The Bordon Hub meets once a week at SiGNAL where we provide business training, inspiration talks, insights from other small businesses, accountability sessions and more! It’s an inclusive group that exemplifies the term ‘business support’ as support is delivered not just through the structured sessions, but also through the business community.
While we meet face-to-face once a week, the support and learning continues throughout the week online and offline with Hub members and our VIP team networking, collaborating and providing help and advice 24/7.
SiGNAL – coworking, desk hire and meeting rooms
The vision for SiGNAL is to provide small business owners and entrepreneurs with a unique workspace in the heart of Bordon. We have a few different spaces available including our:
Free coworking space – an open plan workspace with kitchen facilities available from 9-5pm, Monday to Friday, for anyone who needs a desk, power, WiFi and the company of other local business people. Great for increasing your productivity, avoiding feelings of isolation, business support and opportunities for collaboration.
Meeting room hire – we also have a range of different meeting rooms that can be hired for multiple uses such as client meetings, workshops, staff training, presentations, etc. etc. These rooms can be hired by the hour, half day or full day.
Therapy room hire – especially for wellness practitioners and therapists, we have bespoke rooms to hire for consultation sessions, talking therapies and treatments. Ideal for mobile or home-based therapists who want a professional space to offer their services from.
3D Tech Zone – for business owners and entrepreneurs who want to explore the potential of 3D printing for their business, we provide 3D printing courses and the use of our printers. Great for prototyping ideas and finding innovative solutions for problems your customers or business faces. For more details contact our 3D guru Ian Hiscocks – email@example.com
Desk hire – SiGNAL also has desks / rooms available that can be hired on an ongoing basis to provide you with somewhere to work if you want a dedicated desk or small office.
BOSC – Prince Phillip Park
Just opened is the Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club (BOSC) in Bolley Avenue. This is a multipurpose venue with a clubroom open to all. We’ve included BOSC in our list here because the building includes a function room that’s available for corporate events such as conferences, awards evenings, and corporate parties. Click here to explore the space.
BASE – Bordon Innovation Centre
Located in a refurbished former MOD property is BASE on Barbados Road. This historic building has a variety of different spaces available for business users including a business lounge, hotdesks, meeting rooms and offices for hire. More details here.
Whitehill & Bordon Enterprise Park
Formerly the Prince Phillip Barracks, with the withdraw of the MOD from the area, this site is now the Whitehill & Bordon Enterprise Park. Various warehouse units are available for business users, ranging from 3,000 – 280,000 sq ft. If you require this type of space for your business, further details can be found here.
As well as workspaces and business support delivered through training and talks, small business owners and entrepreneurs may also need the support of B2B service providers to help them be successful.
Many of the Bordon Hub VIP members provide this type of business support, such as accountancy and legal advice. Below are links to their websites and services:
Nicky Cole – Mad About Bookkeeping
Accountancy and bookkeeping services. Nicky started her business in Whitehill in 2010 and since then has grown both her client base and team.
